For some reason I have totally gone off the Mears new series. Oops Will just read that.

The new series seems to be highlighting the aspects of Ray Mears that I don't like so much: Incurable smugness, the idea which is never questioned that some ways of life are more natural and therefore better than others etc.
I liked his series where he did the whole historical survival stories thing best.
I like the bits where he cooks something and his chum tells him that it tastes like shit, eg:
"What I've got here is some mud from the bottom of a lake. I'm going to grind it up with some tree bark and this chunk of deer faeces from the sole of my shoe. Next I fashion it into a patty with this twig, and then bury it in the embers of the fire. So, what do you think?"

There are some pretty funny moments, though, particularly with his friend, who is constantly nibbling bits of grass in a rodent-like fashion.
